Welcome to SWCD
Serving the community in Orange County

Welcome to the Orange County Soil & Water     Conservation District's website. We hope that you     will use our website to discover some valuable and     useful information in the area of conservation here     in Orange County. But first some background - the     District was created in 1967 by a resolution from     the County Legislature, with a mission to protect     the natural resources of Orange County, particularly     our soil and water. Originally almost all of the     District's work was with the agricultural community.     As the county has grown and the landscape has     changed over the years, we now assist various     municipalities, have an active conservation     education program, and help landowners with     conservation issues. We hope you will visit this site     often.

Any comments, questions, etc. that you     have are most welcome.

ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITIES TEAM UP TO PROTECT WATER QUALITY

Over twenty Towns, Villages and Cities, as well as the County of Orange, teamed up with the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Water Authority to develop and deliver a stormwater management program. This work was briefly described in a recent full page notice in the Times Herald Record.

The program and accomplishments are more fully described in the documents below. Also, see the "Our Work-Urban Issues" section of this website where additional stormwater information can be found, including educational brochures and posters.

Feel free to contact our office by phone (845) 343-1873, or by email: Chris DeGroodt with any questions or for additional information.
